iPhone 13 Models in Kenya - All you need to know

Apple iPhone 13 models kenya price and review

Ever since 2007, Apple has been releasing new iPhone models on an annual basis. This year was no different. Apple held its annual iPhone launch event on 14th September 2021.

The new iPhone models announced were the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Apple also introduced the new iPad mini (2021), iPad 10.2 (2021) and Apple Watch Series 7.

If you’re thinking (or just daydreaming) of getting one of these new iPhone models here in Kenya, then this article is for you.

We’ll go over the key features and specs of the new iPhone models as well as the key factors you should consider before spending your hard-earned cash.

Before getting into the features and specs of the new iPhone models, let’s first cover why you should consider not getting an iPhone here in Kenya.

Why you should not buy an iPhone here in Kenya

  • High Purchase Cost

For most of us here in Kenya and Africa in general, we simply can’t afford to fork out One thousand US dollars or more for a smartphone.

While you can get an older iPhone model for as little as Kshs.20,000 here in Kenya, there are just too many Android smartphones that you can choose from that offer more relevant features and better value for money.

  • High Operating Costs

Apple has perfected the art of revenue diversification by implementing different strategies to get money from their customers. Once you buy an iPhone, you’ll still need to buy some apps from the App Store as well as pay for iCloud storage and Apple Music on a monthly basis.

While you can use an iPhone without any paid apps or Apple Music and iCloud subscriptions, you’ll encounter some challenges such as having to sync your iPhone with iTunes using a computer in order to transfer music to the phone or having limited backup space for your data.

  • High Cost of Accessories

Since Apple is considered a premium brand, iPhone accessories tend to be priced higher than accessories for Android smartphones. iPhone cases, glass protectors and earphones are way more expensive than what you’d normally expect to spend on these items here in Kenya.

Getting some accessories can also be a headache since not many electronics shops sell Apple accessories here in the 254.

Apple also uses the proprietary lighting port on its devices which means charging your iPhone while away from home will be a challenge if you don’t have the cable with you.

Why you should consider getting an iPhone here in Kenya

  • Wonderful Camera Performance

iPhone cameras produce high-quality pictures and videos without needing you to be a good photographer. This is due to the camera hardware being supported by some really good software that makes taking good photos and videos very easy.

If you want to get into photography or videography, an iPhone will help you produce high-quality content without needing to invest in additional camera equipment.

  • Status Symbol

As much as there are many valid reasons why you shouldn’t buy an iPhone here in Kenya, if you want kuchocha watu vibaya and appear well-off, get an iPhone. People will automatically assume you have money and a high level of sophistication.

If you add in an Apple Watch, Airpods and car keys, your name will change to mheshimiwa, mkubwa, mdosi, boss yangu and the likes.

  • To Enjoy The Apple Ecosystem

The Apple Ecosystem is a unique experience you’ll enjoy as a by-product of owning multiple Apple devices such as an iPhone, iPad and MacBook. Once you sign in to your devices using your Apple ID, your files, calendar information, settings and apps are synced and made available across all your devices.

This gives you a very enjoyable and smooth experience when using your different Apple gadgets. For example, you can start writing a message on your iPhone, take a break and complete typing the message on your MacBook without having to connect any wires or go through a tedious process.

  • Data Security

If you want to keep the data and information on your smartphone truly secure, then an iPhone is a good option for you. This is where Apple’s tight control on its operating system comes in handy. You can encrypt the data on your iPhone by using a passcode or Touch ID.

You can also remotely erase all the data on your iPhone in case it’s stolen and track the phone as well. Many Android phones have these features but a large number of them can also be rooted and flashed with a custom ROM which makes them less secure than iPhones.

Now that you know why you should or shouldn’t get an iPhone here in Kenya, let’s go over the features and specs of the newly released iPhone 13 models.

Apple iPhone 13 mini Kenya

The iPhone 13 mini is the smallest phone released by Apple in 2021. It shares the same design and 5.4-inch screen as 2020’s iPhone 12 mini, making it a minor upgrade.

Thankfully, the few things Apple upgraded are the features that many users will appreciate the most. For starters, the iPhone 13 mini comes with larger camera sensors at the back which are fitted diagonally instead of vertically as was the case in the 12 mini.

Apple added a larger 2438 mAh battery in the iPhone 13 mini which makes the phone slightly thicker and heavier as well.

For the processor, The new Apple A15 Bionic chip is significantly faster and more efficient than 2020’s A14 Bionic chip which further enhances the user interface and battery life of the iPhone 13 mini.

In terms of storage, the iPhone 13 mini comes with a minimum option of 128GB which makes way more sense than the 64GB in the 12 mini.

Apple iPhone 13 Kenya

The iPhone 13 has been described by many as a minor upgrade to the iPhone 12. While the two phones do share a lot of similarities, the few upgrades that Apple has added in 2021 are quite significant, especially to users coming from older iPhone models.

In terms of the design, the iPhone 13 is identical to the iPhone 12 except for three changes; the iPhone 13 has a diagonal rear camera setup whereas the iPhone 12 has a vertical one, the iPhone 13 has a smaller screen cutout than the iPhone 12 and lastly, the new iPhone 13 has a slightly heavier and thicker body.

These design changes allow the iPhone 13 to have bigger camera sensors for better photos and videos as well as a bigger battery. The iPhone 13 does have a shorter notch than the iPhone 12 but it’s slightly thicker as well.

If you already own an iPhone 12, there are really not enough reasons to upgrade. If you still have an iPhone 8 or iPhone X, then this will be a significant upgrade that you’ll immediately notice.

The release of this new iPhone will also push down the price of the iPhone 12 and 11 so if you’re looking for a bargain, definitely consider these older models.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max Kenya

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is Apple’s 2021 leading flagship smartphone. Similar to the other phones released in 2021, the iPhone 13 Pro Max shares a lot with its 2020 predecessor but comes with significant improvements.

Firstly, the iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with a more advanced camera setup. The new setup features larger sensors than those in the iPhone 12 Pro Max as well as a new Cinematic Mode. To put it simply, you won’t find a better camera on any other iPhone in 2021.
