Samsung recently announced its new line of flagship smartphones for 2022 under the Galaxy S product line, the S22 series.

The Samsung Galaxy S series is a line of high-end smartphones from Samsung. This line was launched back in 2010, with the first phone being the Samsung Galaxy S. Since then, Samsung has released a new Galaxy S series device every year.

After the release of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series in 2019, Samsung opted not to continue with the established numbering sequence.

Instead of releasing the S11 the following year, the company instead released the S20 series in February 2020. Samsung has now adopted this new numbering sequence and released the S22 series in February 2022.

This new line of Galaxy S smartphones features three different models that vary in size and features. On the smaller end of the size spectrum, you have the Samsung Galaxy S22, which features a 6.1-inch display and weighs in at 168 grams.

The next model in the series is the slightly bigger Samsung Galaxy S22+ which features a 6.6-inch display and a weight of 196 grams.

The last and biggest model in the new S22 line-up is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. This model features a 6.8-inch screen and weighs 229 grams.

As mentioned before, the Galaxy S series is a high-end line-up of smartphones from Samsung. This means you need to have a budget of over Kshs. 100,000 here in Kenya in order to afford these new phones.

If you have the money or you’ve been saving up for a new phone, let’s go over the top reasons you should consider buying the Samsung Galaxy S22 series here in Kenya.

Why you should consider getting the Samsung Galaxy S22 Series here in Kenya

  • Top-notch specs

Samsung is one of the market leaders in the smartphone industry, meaning they make high-quality and feature-packed products.

If you’re an Android user who needs the best hardware and user experience available in a smartphone in 2022, then you should definitely consider the Galaxy S22 series.

  • Status Symbol

Similar to owning an iPhone here in Kenya, having a Samsung Galaxy S series device is a sign that you’re doing something right with your life. This can be beneficial if you need to boost your personal image for the purposes of work or business.

  • Data Security

The Samsung Galaxy S Series of phones offer numerous data protection features such as data encryption and biometric authentification. Given the flagship status of the smartphones in this line, Samsung went an extra mile to enhance all the security features by promising 5 years of security patches and 4 generations of Android OS updates for the three devices in the Galaxy S22 series.

Why you should not buy the Samsung Galaxy S22 Series here in Kenya

  • High Purchase Cost

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series smartphones don’t come cheap. For many Kenyans, a large part of this price tag can be better spent elsewhere. There are also very many cheaper smartphones that will serve most of your purposes equally as well such as the 2021 Samsung S21 series or the iPhone 12 models from Apple.

  • High Cost of Accessories

This year’s Galaxy S22 series of smartphones lack a microSD slot as well as a 3.5 mm earphone jack. This means you’ll need to invest in a model with larger internal storage and wireless earphones such as the Galaxy buds. Both of these options don’t come cheap.

Other accessories from Samsung such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch are also pricey, meaning you’ll need to dig deeper into your pocket for branded Bluetooth accessories for your Galaxy S22 series device.

Now that you know why you should or shouldn’t consider getting a Samsung Galaxy S22 series device here in Kenya, let’s go over the features and specs of the newly released Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 has the same design as 2021’s Galaxy S21. It features a more compact 6.1-inch screen and comes with 8GB RAM and the option of 128GB or 256GB internal storage.

The Galaxy S22 has a 3700mAh battery, which seems a bit small when compared to devices from other manufacturers such as Xiaomi.

For the processor, the Galaxy S22 comes with two options, the Exynos 2200 chipset and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. In previous Galaxy S devices, the Snapdragon chipset was typically more powerful than the Exynos option.

However, for the S22, the performance is practically identical, meaning you can’t go wrong with either chipset but do get the Snapdragon option if possible.
